What Now?

In Year 9

This is when you need to think about the subjects you will study in Years 10 and 11.
In most cases you must study in line with the National Curriculum. You will probably take GCSEs in most of these subjects.
Your school may also allow you to work towards a 'vocational qualification' at the same time as your GCSEs. Vocational qualifications can enable you to obtain knowledge and skills for your career ideas.

These qualifications don't necessarily lead to a particular job, they are linked to work areas, for example:

  • Art and Design
  • Manufacturing

In Year 10

You need to think about the decisions you will make after Year 11.

You will also need to research your options at 16 plus and find out about different careers.

You will have the opportunity to investigate your skills, abilities and interests.

In Years 10 or 11 you may have the chance to go on work experience which can give you a 'taste' of work.

Other qualifications may be available for those who need extra support.
