Downloading

There are many types of files that are available for download from the Internet. These range from simple text documents to video clips. On most web sites there will be a section or a link which will allow you to download files to a specific place on your hard drive.

Many things can affect the downloading of file(s), some of these are:

Connection speed
File Size
Server Traffic

There are programs available like Download Demon (www.netzip.com) that allow you to download files easily and, if the connection fails or you have to log off, it will continue the next time you access the Internet. The estimated time it takes to download a file should be displayed in an information box.

You may need extra software to read some of the files that are available for download ie Acrobat Reader, Macromedia Flash, and RealPlayer. All of these are freely available on the Internet, and the site you are downloading from will have links to sites this software is available from.
